Steel prices rose 1.4 percent from September to October while prices for other building materials remained flat, according to the October Producer Price Index. Lumber declined by 0.7 percent and asphalt prices were down 0.5 percent. Concrete prices were unchanged. 

For the last 12 months, steel prices have increased by 12 percent, asphalt prices are up 4.8 percent and lumber prices are up 7.3 percent. Concrete prices have declined by 0.4 percent during the same period.
